O's Start Homestand With A Thud

What's that sound you hear? It's just the Orioles falling further down into the cellar of the AL East, a place the club has called home for the last few seasons.

The Birds returned home to Baltimore and continued where they left off on the West Coast...with yet another loss. This time it was the Toronto Blue Jays that knocked the O's down another notch, beating them 8-4 in front of a disappointed crowd at Camden Yards on Friday night.

Zach Britton turned in his shortest outing of the season and was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks over five innings, striking out three. Britton (5-4) saw his ERA rise to 3.33 and hasn't won a game since May 1.

Toronto went up 2-0 in the second inning, thanks to another error by Mark Reynolds. Reynolds now leads the Majors with 11 errors this season...

Britton allowed a run in the third and was just a pitch away from getting out of the fifth inning unscathed...with the bases jammed and two outs, J. P. Arencibia drilled a grand slam on a 2-2 count to give the Jays a 7-0 lead and saddle Britton with his second straight loss.

The O's offense was held hitless through the first four innings before scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth. J.J. Hardy launched a two-run bomb in the bottom of the eighth, but it just wasn't enough...Hardy went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs in the losing effort. Overall, the O's slapped ten hits, equalling Toronto, but couldn't come up with the clutch hits when they needed to.

The O's (25-30) are in sole possession of last place and are six games behind the first-place Yankees in the divisional race. Jake Arrieta, coming off his worst start of the season, looks for his seventh win of the season on Saturday night...
