The Orioles managed to escape D.C. with a victory after a 7-4 win over the Nationals on Sunday afternoon.
Chris Jakubauskas picked up the win with a strong performance on the mound, and had a great day at the plate...Jakubauskas (2-0) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over five innings, striking out six, and went 2-for-3 with two singles off Nat's starter Tom Gorzelanny.
The offense was clicking, and managed to turn hits into runs on Sunday...the Birds struck early and often, scoring single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, and twice in the fifth. They tacked on another run with Mark Reynolds' solo homer in the sixth and added an insurance run in the eighth. Reynolds went 3-for-4, scoring twice, and fell a triple shy of the cycle...
The bullpen held up, with Jim Johnson hurling two shutout innings and Koji Uehara allowing just a solo shot in two innings of relief. This was the second time in a week we've seen Koji come out to pitch two innings, and the second time he's given up a lead-off homer to begin the frame...at least this time it wasn't a walk-off shot.
The Birds now head to Pittsburgh to begin a three-game set with the Pirates. Jake Arrieta takes the mound in search of his ninth win...
