Northern Plights

Jake Arrieta was solid, but his performance wasn't enough to prevent the Orioles from losing their 16th straight game against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, as the O's fell 4-1 to Toronto on Wednesday night.

Arrieta (8-4) missed his shot to become the second pitcher in the AL with nine wins after allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings, striking out five. Arrieta allowed solo home runs in the first and sixth innings and left with two outs in the seventh after walking a batter. Clay Rapada came on in relief and allowed a two-run bomb to Adam Lind to give Toronto an insurmountable 4-0 lead.

The O's were held to just four hits in the loss, and would have been shut out if not for Matt Wieters' RBI single in the ninth inning...

The O's (30-35) are now nine games behind Boston in the AL East, and look to Jeremy Guthrie on Thursday afternoon to end the recent four-game skid. A win against the Jays in Toronto would be huge...Let's Go O's!
