It could have been Nick Markakis' day...
Matt Wieters stood on second base with two down in the ninth, and Robert Andino stood at the plate with a 3-2 count...Andino took ball four and...oh no, a horrific call at the plate sent Andino and the Birds to the locker room with another loss.
There's no way of knowing what could have been, but the fact is this...the O's fell to the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4 in the rubber-match on Sunday afternoon.
Jeremy Guthrie was less than stellar, allowing five runs over six innings, and took the loss. Guthrie (2-8) also surrendered two homers and never looked comfortable on the mound as the O's missed out on a chance to take the series against their Northern rivals.
The game was back-and-forth over the first few innings before the Jays went ahead on a three-run bomb in the fourth and never looked back. Mark Reynolds tried to start a rally in the ninth, slapping his second homer in as many games, but the O's eventually fell to the Jays...
Brian Matusz takes the mound for the Birds on Monday night, as the Orioles attempt to avenge the three-game sweep in Oakland...
