Alfredo Simon pitched a gem and Mark Reynolds drove in five runs in an 8-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

Mark Reynolds grounded into a bases-loaded double play to end the first inning, but made up with it with a two-run double in the third to put the O's ahead for good. Reynolds mashed a three-run bomb in the ninth and finished the game 3-for-5 with five RBIs, tying a career-best.

Tommy Hunter also made his Orioles' debut, taking the mound in the eighth in relief of Simon. Hunter allowed a run on two hits, and is expected to start in place of Jake Arrieta on Friday. Arrieta most likely will need surgery on his elbow and will miss the rest of the season, a big blow considering he leads the team in wins (10) and strikeouts (93).
