After being held to just one hit through the first six innings, the Birds slapped three in the seventh, including a two-run blast off the bat of Vladimir Guerrero, to take a 2-1 lead over the Washington Nationals.
The score would hold up and the Birds took the Beltway series with a win on Sunday afternoon at Camden Yards.
Chris Tillman went five strong innings, allowing just one run on six hits and two walks while fanning four. Tillman was pulled after five due to a high pitch count, but kept the Birds in the game while the offense was struggling against Jordan Zimmermann.
After Mark Reynolds' ground-rule double in the second inning, the O's were held hitless until Nick Markakis led-off the seventh with a single and Guerrero followed with his fifth homer of the season.
The bullpen was magnificent, holding the Nats to just two hits over the final four frames. Jim Johnson picked up his third win of the season, and Kevin Gregg was awarded his eighth save...
Matt Wieters threw out two batters attempting to steal second base, once in the second inning and again in the ninth to record the final out of the game.
The Birds are off on Monday before starting a three-game set against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Zach Britton takes the mound on Tuesday night and looks to pick up his sixth win of the season...
