Down to their last strike, the O's defeated the Kansas City Royals in a thrilling 5-3 victory on Tuesday night at Camden Yards.
Adam Jones' two-run walk-off homer gave the Birds an amazing come-from-behind win and their third straight "W" in front of the roaring home crowd.
Zach Britton wasn't dominant but kept the O's in the game in a six-inning performance. Britton allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks while fanning two in the no-decision. The bullpen was impressive yet again, with three relievers combining to allow just two hits over the final three frames. Alfredo Simon made his 2011 debut with a 1-2-3 ninth and took the win after Jones' blast.
The O's offense was silent until the sixth inning...down 3-0, Matt Wieters slapped an RBI double and came home on Luke Scott's single to make it a one-run game. The score remained the same until the bottom of the ninth...
With one out, J.J. Hardy doubled, and Felix Pie followed with an RBI double to tie the game. After Robert Andino struck out swinging, the Birds had the winning run on second base with two outs. Adam Jones stepped to the plate, and on an 0-2 count crushed a ball over the center field wall to give the Birds the walk-off win.
With a 22-24 record, the O's are still in last in the division but are just 3 1/2 games out of first. The Birds send Jake Arrieta to the mound on Wednesday night...
